The intention of
targeting this demographic is to educate youth who may be thinking
about career options as they enter high school so that they will be
aware of the prerequisite courses for our programs.
Part of the students'
day at the College would include a discussion on prerequisites to enter
the Officer Cadet training program (4 years, tuition paid, plus
allowance), which has two streams, Navigation and Marine Engineering.
Additionally they will be exposed to other programs at the College
including a Marine Communications and Traffic Services (MCTS)
simulator, as well as a visit to an operational MCTS centre; a visit
with the Marine Maintenance and Equipment Training centre, and exposure
to other career options within the Canadian Coast Guard, such as
careers as part of a ship's crew.
The day will be
informative and interactive, with the tour covering simulators, labs, a
machine shop, boat shed, gymnasium, planetarium, library, etc If there are any interested students, please see Mr. MacDonald in Guidance.
